I discovered another use for the knitting needle today. I was taking apart a Speedotron Black Line Light head (aka flash head) to clean it out and lubricate the fan assembly, since it was noisy. There are four screws and one part that keeps the modeling light head situated on the outside of the outer casing (so one can click it on and off). After pulling the innards out and cleaning the YEARS of lint and crap out of it, and carefully lubricating the fan assembly, I put it back in the casing. I realized that even my tiny fingers wouldn't do a very good job of nudging the modeling light switch up through the hole it went in. Then I had an epiphany. The airflow slots on the front of the light were a perfect size to stick a size 2 double-pointed bamboo needle in. I went to my purse, pulled it out of the sock, and stuck it in there, and successfully pushed the switch through the hole! Ta-da!
Mad props going out to my gal Laurie for giving birth to a bouncing baby boy named Rowan! Happy birthday, kid!
